I Got Engaged!! | Engagement Story Baltimore

Our Engagement Story

Peabody Library, Baltimore MD

Sometimes, someone comes into your life, so unexpectedly, takes your heart by surprise, and changes your life forever. – unknown

Tuesday.

Our library engagement story started with a long day. I went to work with plans to meet Josh and his co-workers for happy hour. We already had plans for dinner, but he said his co-workers wanted to do a couples happy hour, and for some reason, he was really excited about it. I just knew I had enough time to leave work, go home and change clothes ( I go to work looking ruff!), and get to happy hour on time. However, I had a meeting after work that ran a little late. I ended up leaving work and going straight to happy hour.

With little time to spare, I got there.  I called my blogger boo Bianca to catch up, and I see Josh walking really fast into the restaurant. I don’t think twice about it. He hates being late. Meanwhile, I wait until he comes back out looking for me before I get off the phone and get out of the car.

As I start making my beeline into the restaurant, he stops me and suggests we wait for everyone to arrive. He calls his co-worker Emilio to get an ETA, and he says it’s probably going to be another 30 minutes before he gets there with traffic being crazy. It was nice outside, so Josh suggested we grab a coffee. Again, nothing suspicious, Josh is crazy about his Starbucks. No matter the time of day, it’s always a good time to grab a cup of java. As we walk, and he starts asking me what each building and monument is on our path. We get up to the Peabody Library that I love. I say babe let’s go inside! I had been meaning to take him there for one of the jazz nights they hold.

Find a Book.

The door to the library is closed, and I look at the security guard to ask if it’s ok if we go in. He looked as if he couldn’t wait to tell me no, but then he made eye contact with Josh, and all of sudden is body language changed and said it was cool.

We walk in, and I start pointing out how they have books from all over the country. I walk over where the South Carolina books are, and I turn around excited to share with him books from his home state. He is on one knee in the middle of the empty library!

I couldn’t believe it. I literally asked him, what are you doing?!? I saw that he had his serious face on while holding a little box, so I knew he was ready to say something from the heart. He said the sweetest words that made us both a little emotional. Before he could open the box, I said yes!

I looked over in the corner after hearing a few clicks,  and I see my brother/photographer, Jeff Martin, snapping away! And I couldn’t do anything but put an even bigger smile on my face. I was in disbelief over how they were able to keep this from me.

Naturally, afterward, I FaceTime my mom to share the good news. Only to find out later her and my dad were on their way to meet us for dinner at a restaurant that I love. Then I FaceTime my sister, only to find out she was in on it! I FaceTime my Endo sis April, her energy is magnetic, and we literally were just talking about how our journeys to love were so similar. Then a flood of text and calls with my bestie Lauren, family, and friends.

Love is so real.

I honestly can’t say I have had faith that this is what God has had in store for me, but He always knew what was in my heart. If you desire to have love and partnership in your life, just know He hears you. It may not come when you think it is supposed to come. It may be on a Tuesday in the middle of the week when you least expect it.

Be open to what may come, hold true to what you know you deserve, let go of past experiences, and laugh through the journey!

Thank you to everyone that played a part!

My amazing Fiance’ for being so thoughtful and loving, my parents for playing everything off, my sister for being Josh’s support, Roland for not spilling the beans, Emilio for sounding so convincing on the phone, Jeff for being there ready to snap at every milestone in my life, the Peabody Library Manager, and everyone who simply sends me good vibes!

Here’s to our future!
