Summer Fun: Strawberry Pickin’ Guide

#FarmFresh
Happy June Everyone!
This is probably one of favorite month’s solely because I can find so many farms that will let me pick strawberries, blueberries, cherries and raspberries until my heart in content! This past weekend I took a special trip to +Baugher’s Orchard & Farm. This place is my mom and I’s favorite for picking our own Figi Apples in the fall, and strawberries and cherries in the summer months. They also give hayrides through the farm, which makes it all that more exciting to visit.  If you are looking for a different type of adventure this summer that is in your backyard, keeping reading…

Let me just say, I love going to local farms and picking my own produce. Often times I find myself ill-prepared for the elements, yet my mother is ALWAYS on it.  So, here are a few tips for the optimal experience (following my mom’s lead). If you are a rebel like me, rock your cutest sandals and watch your step, also bring a towel because the sun won’t be your friend.
Summer Fruit Picking Guide

1. Wear close-toe shoes. It’s no fun getting dirt between your toes, or possibly jamming your toes against a water pipe.
2. Pull out your floppy hat. Summer temperatures can be brutal, and any extra protection you can get from the sun will pay off.
3. Bring a Friend. The lines can get pretty long waiting for your turn, so make sure you bring someone you can have a little fun with along the way.
4. Talk to strangers. This is probably the only time I would suggest this (maybe not), but I’m always picking up on recipes and other hide-away spots just by sparking a conversation in line with someone I don’t know.

You will be surprised by how many farms and orchards you can find in your backyard. I personally love going to PickYourOwn.org to find the perfect place. All the information is organized by state and by the fruits and vegetables that are in season.
Working on creating a complete guide of my favorite farms on the east coast. Do you have any farms that you love to visit? Please share!!
