5 Best Self Care Vacation Ideas You Need to Experience

What is a Self-Care Trip?

Self-care is an important aspect of maintaining good physical and mental health. Adding self-care to a special trip can create a life-changing experience. Planning intentional travel around your personal wellness could be the one thing you need to fight stress, help you get a deeper understanding of habits you can’t seem to break and allow you to find a new track of understanding to get past mental blocks.

A self-care trip is an opportunity for you to reset in an inspiring environment. If you have ever had an “aha moment” while traveling, imagine what would happen if you intentionally curated an experience that was all about you receiving are like me and are looking to take your self-care journey to the next level this year, let this post inspire you to think outside of the box for your next self-care trip. You can do many different things to practice self-care, and what works for one person may not work for another.

How to Plan the Perfect Self-Care Trip

3 Things to Consider for a Self-Care Trip

When thinking of the perfect self-care trip, it is important to prioritize a trip that does not add to your stress. Where you go, who you travel with, and what you want out of your trip are important. Here are a few things to think about before planning the perfect self-care trip:

  1. Make the travel inspirational. Pick a place that inspires you! One of my favorite places in Asheville. Between the artful downtown and the natural trails with waterfalls, I always find something that inspires me.
  2. Choose the right travel companion. Be honest with yourself about whom you enjoy traveling with for a self-care trip. Often having the wrong travel campaign could leave you feeling like you have another weight on your shoulders you don’t need when on a healing/growth journey.
  3. Choose a trip theme. Before going on a trip, decide what area of self-care you need to focus on to ensure you get the reset you need from your day-to-day.

What are the types of self-care trips?

There are seven key areas of self-care to focus on for the perfect vacation:

Health and Wellness Self-Care Trips

Taking a health and wellness self care trip is great if you are looking to focus on living a healthy lifestyle, wanting to take control of a health condition, and/or developing healthy habits you can use in your day-to-day life. This could also be an opportunity for you to explore a new type of health experience.

Physical Self-Care Trips

This is the trip for you if you need to move! If you find that your daily life takes you away from being active, and you need to find inspiration to add more physical movement in your life, this is perfect for you.

Mental Self-Care Trips

Taking a mental self care trip is perfect if you are on a self discovery journey. When you opt for a self discovery vacation, you are looking to come back home with clarity on who you are and what you want for your life. These types of trips can include meditation, yoga, and more.

Emotional Self-Care Trips

Planning a trip centered around emotional self-care can involve a variety of things from one-on-one counseling to creative activities that allows you to express yourself in different ways.

Spiritual Self-Care Trips

We often forget to take time to reconnect spiritually. Going on a trip that will allow you to connect spiritually can be extremely beneficial. This could be based on your spiritual beliefs and/or, in general, exploring the higher power within oneself.

Social Self-Care Trips

If you are in need of human connection, taking a social self-care trip is a perfect idea! You have probably experienced refreshing social connections while on vacation before, and if you think back, that connection has left you with seeds of inspiration you still use today. This type of trip can be intentional with someone who is already in your life, or it could be used as an opportunity to connect with new like-minded individuals.

Occupational Self-Care Trips

Most wouldn’t even consider exploring occupational self-care, but it is important to give yourself inspirational environments for you to know you are never stuck in a job or situation. Finding a conference, think-tank or retreat in your occupational area can give you insight on career options you never thought about exploring.

Here are a list of self-care vacation ideas based on all seven areas of self-care we should all be paying attention to on our journey.

1. Visit a Hot Spring.

Warm Springs Pool, Omni Hotel

Native Americans considered hot springs as a sacred place where the “Great Spirit” lived, and thus were great believers in the miraculous healing powers of the heat and mineral waters. Hot springs would eventual turn into “natural health spas” that doctors would recommend for overall health. Both President George Washington and Roosevelt frequented hot springs, and these springs can be found around the world. Some are open to the public and others are now the center point for health and wellness resorts. The Omni Homestead Resort’s Warm Springs Pool, is first spa structure in America built in 1761, and you can still visit it today.

If you can’t find a natural spring, there are several spas and resorts that offer salt bath alternatives that can reap the same benefits. The Shoji Spa’s Japanese Salt baths in Asheville, NC are a great outdoors experience that will leave you feeling rejuvenated.

2. Visit a Wellness Hotel and Spa.

Wether you want to experience IV hydration during a hotel stay or have a sound bath every morning, there is a wellness spa that offers those amenities. No matter if you want to travel locally or internationally, you can not find hotels that off a suite of health and wellness options that can carter to your needs. The top two on my list are Garden of the Gods in Colorado and the Sanctuary in Scottsdale, AZ.

3. Go Hiking.

There are a lot of free options when looking for self care vacation ideas, and hiking is one of them! Getting out in nature and getting vitamin D alone can have great benefits for your self-care journey. Adding in a scenic view and fresh air can make for an exceptional self-care trip. If you are looking to stay in the United States, experiencing the healing vortex in Sedona, AZ could be the perfect self-care trip for you. When you visit Sedona, they have several walking trails for both experienced hikers and beginners. The healing vortex is about a 30 minute hike that you can do even if you forgot to bring your hiking shoes.

4. Explore Tea.

Taking a trip to a Japanese Tea Garden can be a relaxing way to enjoy a self-care trip. There are several tea gardens around the country. One of my favorite free tea gardens is the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, Texas. Exploring an actual tea farm can be an equally rewarding experience. The Charleston Tea Garden in South Carolina is one of my favorite places to retreat to when I need a reset.

5. Go on a Self Care Retreat

My self care vacation ideas wouldn’t be complete without listing a few curated retreats that will take the guesswork out of figuring out what to do. This is all about emerging yourself into a self improvement environment in the most effortless way . If you are deciding to go on a solo self care trip, a curated retreat might be the ideal trip for you as well.
