Amazing Anti-Inflammatory Essential Oils

Essential Oils can be used for lots of things, but choosing the right oils while on an inflammation healing and self care journey is a game changer!

There are so many essential oils that have been proven to help with inflammation. I’m going to share some of my favorites here today.

I’ve included links where you can purchase them as well as some other great products that support your health.

The following oils have been proven to help with inflammation by suppressing COX-2, which is inflammation response, in the body.

Using essential oils for inflammation can help short term inflammation like a bump or bruise. As well as, chronic inflammation disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, asthma, diabetes, endometriosis, and more.

Thyme Oil

Thyme oil has the highest levels of the compound research has shown to suppress inflammation.

This oil has anti-inflammatory properties and it helps reduce inflammation pain. It also helps relieve stress and anxiety.

You can use this oil topically or internally. You can make an infusion using 1/4 cup of thyme leaves and 2 cups water . Let steep overnight then strain out the herbs. Add enough olive oil to cover the herb mixture and store in a dark glass bottle. This makes approximately one ounce of oil.

You can add a few drops of this oil to a bath or rub it into the skin to help calm down redness and swelling from arthritis.

It’s also good for headaches, sinus infections, sore throats, cold sores, acne, eczema, psoriasis, insect bites, and more.

Clove Oil

Clove oil is another essential oil that works really well for suppressing inflammation in your body. And, it also contains high levels of beta-carotene and Eugenol that is known for reducing inflammation.

When applied externally it reduces swelling and relieves pain. Cloves contain eugenol, which is an antiseptic and antibacterial agent.

You can apply clove oil directly to the affected area or mix it with coconut oil and massage into the skin. Or you can take a few drops internally.

Clove oil is also known for promoting circulation and improve blood flow. It’s great for people who suffer from varicose veins, hemorrhoids, and athlete’s foot.

Eucalyptus Oil

Eucalyptol is found in eucalyptus essential oil. Eucalyptol is a natural anti-fungal, antiviral, and antimicrobial compound for inflammation.

It’ll kill bacteria and fungus like nothing else.

It ’s also a strong antioxidant and immune booster. It’s also great for treating coughs, colds, flu, bronchitis, asthma, sinus problems, and sore throat.

Fennel Oil

Fennel seed contains thymoquinone, which is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compound.

It‘s also a natural decongestant. Fennel oil is said to be helpful for digestive issues including stomach ulcers, indigestion, diarrhea, constipation, and bloating.

It’ s also excellent for rheumatoid arthritis, gout, and osteoporosis.

Bergamot Oil

Bergapten is a bioflavonoid found in bergamot oil. It’s a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent.

It’ ll inhibit the production of inflammatory enzymes called cyclooxygenase-1 and -2. These enzymes are responsible for causing inflammation.

It’ ll also stimulate the release of endorphins, which are naturally occurring chemicals that produce feelings of happiness and relaxation.

Bergamottin is also used for treating cancer cells. It’ll stop them from dividing and multiplying. It also stops their ability to spread throughout the body.

Rose Oil 

Rose essential oil has anti-inflammatory properties and it helps reduce inflammation pain. It also supports healthy digestion and circulation. Rose oil is very calming and relaxing.

It is best to use rose oil topically or in an inhalant form. You can make a soothing massage blend by adding 1/2 cup of carrier oil like olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, etc. to 2 tablespoons of rose water (you can find this at most grocery stores). Then add 5 drops of rose oil per ounce of carrier oil. Massage into skin after showering.

Croton Oil

This oil is coming from the seeds of Croton tiglium, a tree native to India and Pakistan.

It contains a high concentration of essential fatty acids and vitamins A, B1, C, D, E, K, and folic acid.

Used to relieve muscle spasms, joint pains, headaches, insect bites, and cuts. It’s especially good for those suffering from arthritis, backaches, and general aches and pains.
