How to Find an “Endo Sis” when Fighting Endometriosis

Having Endometriosis or any chronic pain disorder sometimes makes you feel like you are on an island. It is hard to explain your pain to others, which often times leads to you doubting yourself about what you know you feel.

Benefits of Having a Endo Sister

My first year of knowing I had Endometriosis, I dealt with it myself. The web was my best friend, and I would take everything I found to my doctor thinking I had the perfect team to fight the disorder.

Unfortnately, I soon realized that the individuals who knew the most about the disease were the woman you had it. I joined every Facebook group I could find and followed every Instagram account that would talk about it. And then I was able to discover more about what was causing my pain and how to find relief.

But is wasn’t until I started having intimate conversations with other woman about their pain and their pain relief regiment that I was finally able to get to a place of empowerment.

I have had 3 Endo Sisters, with 3 different journeys with finding pain relief — changing their diet, with the use of drugs, vitamins, oils, cannabis, and yoga.

They opened my eyes to my options, gave me authority to give my doctor directions on how I wanted manage my pain, and showed me my life doesn’t have to stop just because of Endometriosis.

“Endo Sis” is more than just a term of endearment. When I call someone my Endo Sis they are literally my sister that I am growing with along this journey. We share moments of pain and laughter with the hopes of getting to a place of true relief without having to give up on our dreams in the process. These are women that I support in all parts of their lives. When one of us win, we all win!

If you don’t have an Endo Sis that you can call, text, and just share with get one! Here are a few steps I would take to finding a friend on your journey:

How to find an Endo Sis on Your Journey

  1. Join an Endometriosis Facebook Group
  2. Follow Endometriosis Instagram Accounts
  3. Attend Endometriosis Events
  4. Respond to comments with helpful advice based on your personal experience
  5. Slide in the DM! Message other women that you share commonalities – location, stages of pain, life goals, etc
  6. Introduce or tell Endo Sisters about other women that could relate to on their journey
  7. Share your journey. You will be surprised how many of your friends on social media have Endometriosis, but neither of you thought to share.

These are all steps I took to finding my close circle of Endo Sisters, and I am so thankful for everything they have sown into my life.
